Alliance Boots has launched a range of over-the-counter (OTC) paternity testing kits from a number of its larger Boots pharmacy outlets.
The assuredna kit works by collecting mouth swab samples from the father, mother and child in question, which can then be analysed by manufacturer Anglia DNA Services at its laboratory facilities.
In offering the kit from February 2011 onwards, the company joins more than 350 independent pharmacies that already stock the assuredna test.
A spokesperson from the Boots UK chain stated that the product launch will give its clients more choice.
"This test provides peace of mind for those of our customers who may be seeking reassurance with paternity matters," the representative added.
Last month, the company published preliminary financial data for the quarter ending on December 31st 2010, noting a 14.3 percent year-on-year growth in revenue.
It stated that its Boots pharmacies have seen improved sales in recent months, despite the impact of the harsh weather during winter
