Paternity Testing

Paternity Testing
DNA paternity testing determines whether a man could be the biological father of a child. We all inherit our DNA (the genetic material) from our biological parents. A DNA paternity test compares a child’s DNA pattern with that of the alleged father to check for evidence of this inheritance—the most definitive proof of a biological relationship.

The result of a DNA paternity test is either an exclusion (the alleged father is not the biological father), or an inclusion (the alleged father is considered the biological father). For a standard paternity test, ONAT DNA CENTER guarantees at least 99.99% probability of paternity for inclusions or 100% certainty of exclusion.

Test Types: Legal and Home DNA Test
The type of paternity test you need will depend on what you intend to use the DNA test results for:

If you need paternity test results that can be used as a legal document (for example, to change the name on the birth certificate or to obtain child support and other benefits), a Legal DNA Test needs to be performed (described below).
However, if you need the test only for personal knowledge, a Home DNA Test willl suffice.
Unlike the Home DNA Test, where tested parties collect their own samples at their convenience, the Legal DNA Test follows a Chain of Custody documentation process to ensure that you receive accurate and legally defensible results. When you set up your case with ONAT DNA CENTER, we will coordinate a convenient sample collection appointment, during which a trained sample collector will complete all the necessary documentation to satisfy chain of custody requirements.

DNA Testing: The ONAT DNA CENTER Advantage
ONAT DNA CENTER leads the DNA testing industry in its quality of service, which focuses on ensuring DNA test accuracy as well as a smooth experience for our clients. For all our DNA paternity testing clients, we:

Run each test twice, following the most stringent procedures to guarantee accurate and conclusive results.
Complete testing in 3 working days (5 working days for a prenatal test).
Maintain confidentiality of each case using strict communication protocols.
Schedule convenient appointments through our comprehensive network of collection sites.
DNA Test Participants
In a standard DNA paternity test, the tested parties include a child, the alleged father, and the mother (called a trio).

The mother’s participation in the paternity test helps to exclude half of the child’s DNA, leaving the other half for comparison with the alleged father’s DNA. However, we can perform a paternity test without mother’s participation (called a motherless). A motherless test involves additional analysis, which ONAT DNA CENTER performs without any additional charge. Results are equally conclusive whether or not the mother participates. Motherless tests are guaranteed to have at least a 99.9% probability of paternity for inclusions and 100% for exclusion.

Sample Collection
We routinely use the painless buccal (cheek) swab to collect samples. This allows our customers to choose a sample collection appointment most convenient for them. We also have extensive affiliations with laboratories worldwide for international sample collections.

DNA Testing Costs
The basic cost for the Chain of Custody DNA test is $475 for one child and one alleged father, with or without the mother. In addition, a sample collection fee of $70 is charged for each paternity test case(child and alleged father). The mother’s DNA sample is collected free of charge. This fee, paid directly to ONAT DNA CENTER, covers the cost of coordinating the case and includes sample collection, appointment coordination, and shipping.*

We start the testing process with only a $99 non-refundable partial payment, and you can pay the balance over time. However, results are not released until the balance is paid in full.

*Note: Due to New York State Department of Health regulations, sample collection fees for appointments made in New York vary.

Additional Tested Parties
We can test additional children or alleged fathers if needed; there is a DNA testing and analysis fee of $195 for each additional tested party. Sample collections for additional children or alleged fathers cost $35 each.

Special DNA Paternity Testing Options
We often work with customers who would like to know the paternity relationship even before the child is born. We’re able to test prenatal samples in such situations. Alternatively, we can use umbilical cord blood taken at birth—this option is less expensive than the prenatal test, which requires special procedures performed by an OB-GYN.

We can also test unusual samples when the father is missing or deceased based on availability testperformed on the samples.

For customers seeking peace of mind without intending to use the results as legal documentation, we provide premium quality Home DNA paternity testing services.

DNA Testing

DNA Testing

In today’s scientifically and technologically advanced world, paternity testing has risen to match the advanced discoveries of modern science by relying on DNA testing. After the importance of DNA was finally realized, a DNA test could prove, without a doubt, that a person is innocent or guilty of a crime, for example, or that a man is the father of a child.

What is DNA?

DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) are cells found in the body that contain hereditary information from both parents but is unique to each person. DNA is usually found in the cell nucleus but is also found in the mitochondria. DNA stores information and is comprised of four chemical bases called A (adenine), G (guanine), C (cytosine) and T (thymine). The chemical bases’ sequence is how way the body builds its cells.

The bases also form pairs, which get attached to a phosphate and sugar molecule to form a nucleotide. These nucleotides take the visual form of a double helix and give DNA its signature shape. DNA is found in blood, tissue, bodily fluids and hair, to name the most obvious sources, making it easy to obtain a sample if necessary.

You Can Trust DNA Test Results

DNA testing for paternity is accurate and its results can be trusted to be correct. The accuracy percentage for DNA paternity testing is 99.99 percent, meaning human error will likely be the culprit should the test prove incorrect. This is why it’s important, when undergoing a paternity test, research and make sure the DNA test lab you’re sending the samples to is not only reputable but is AABB accredited.

A DNA test for paternity simply analyzes a sample of the child’s DNA and compares it to the potential father to determine whether the man’s DNA is indeed present in the child’s. If the man fathered the child, his DNA will match up, in part, to the child’s DNA sample.

Types of DNA Testing

In general, DNA testing is performed after the child is born, which makes it less invasive and safer for the baby and the mother. Prenatal DNA tests for paternity can be performed via amniocentesis or CVS (chorionic villus sampling). Both methods must be performed by a doctor and both option should be discussed because they can threaten the baby.

CVS can be performed early in the pregnancy and is done by inserting a thin needle through the vagina up to the uterine wall to obtain samples of the chorionic villi, which contain DNA from the baby. Later in pregnancy, amniocentesis can be done by putting a large needle into the stomach to withdraw amniotic fluid for testing. This method, however, has been known to cause miscarriages.

Otherwise, DNA samples can be taken from the umbilical cord at birth or via a cheek swab later on. It’s also possible, if the child is older, to take a non-standard DNA sample, such as a toothbrush, so that the child isn’t aware of the paternity test.

DNA testing has come a long way and can help dispel any doubts as to the paternity of your child.

DNA Paternity Test & Prove Your Fatherhood

Bones and muscles form a human body. It is known to all. But do you know which component constitutes a living being? You might have heard of the Deoxyribonucleic Acid or DNA. This is referred as the genetic blueprint which contains the basic biological details of a living being. A human body comprises of several cells, which are considered to be its basic unit. Within a cell, there are tight thread-like structures called chromosomes which contain DNA wounded around them. These particles are the best sources to find the paternity of an individual through DNA paternity testing. The results obtained through the DNA paternity testing is considered to be accurate to maximum level.

Chromosomes, in which the DNA are contained in the human body, are 46 in number. Half of which is inherited from the father and the other half from the mother. This provides a definite genetic pattern to the inheritance of the child, which to a great extent minimizes the chance of the DNA results to be inaccurate. With the help of DNA paternity testing, it has become quite simple to find out the truth behind the relationship of a man and his so-called child. Getting a result provides a significant peace of mind to the alleged father. In fact, not only for peace of mind, but the DNA paternity tests are used for legal purposes as well.

No doubt, DNA was present even earlier, but due to the lack of technical tools and devices, they could not be utilized for the purpose. However, with the continuous technological advancement, several tools have come into existence which act as the platform for performing scientific or medical tests correctly for obtaining accurate results. DNA paternity testing, with such inventions has been made easier by the scientists. Prior to such inventions, the people tried to examine and match the behavioral traits of the father with that of his known child. Even the color of eyelid of both of them was matched to see the similarities without any assurance of accuracy. But DNA paternity test confirms accuracy, which is approximate to 99%.

Buccal swabbing is one of the most common processes using which the DNA particles are collected for DNA paternity test. In this process, the swabs against the cheek are rubbed gently to obtain the particles for examination. Second option is the collection of about two teaspoon of blood from the test participants, in case any kind of extended testing is required. When it comes to doing a test to get the peace of mind, there are kits available for individuals to perform the test at home. While, if the test has to be done for legal purpose, it must be gone through under the supervision of a legal official. This is because many a times, the DNA paternity test results have been tampered to mislead the legal judgments. Thus, it becomes necessary to take precaution for getting accurate results.

If you want to clear your doubts or desire the judgment to be in your favor, undergo DNA paternity test for accurate and untampered results.

$50 paternity test

The perils of the $50 paternity test

As the cuckold is revealed, the studio audience roars. On screen, electronic bleeps offer the only protection from the curses denoting humiliation, anger and grief. For producers of the grubbiest daytime television, the novelty of exposing the ultimate betrayal never wears off.

Now, thanks to the wonders of science, the very same drama could be coming to a store near you.

Last week, Britain's biggest drugstore announced plans to stock its shelves with a $50 paternity test to check a man's DNA against that of the child his partner has carried.

For some scientists and those with an interest in genetics, the decision by Boots constitutes a sort of progress, replacing a hazy world of suspicion and mistrust with lab-coated certainty.

Gamely, the makers of the tests go further, with reassurance that the kit will provide families across Britain with "peace of mind." Yet psychologists and commentators on ethics see in the commercial decision something quite different; the power of cheap technology to destroy complex and fragile bonds holding thousands of lives together.

While paternity bombshells provide easy fodder for reality TV and soap-opera cliffhangers, many people assume this is not an issue that affects "people like them." One professor of public health wonders who they are trying to kid. Research by Mark Bellis, director of the Centre for Public Health at Liverpool John Moores University, suggests one in 25 children in Britain has been sired by someone other than the man who believes he is the father.

Dr. David Jones, director of the Roman Catholic Anscombe Bioethics Centre, believes companies should not be able to profit from revelations which could tear families apart, and leave children without a father figure.

"It is irresponsible to leave these decisions to the free market and not think about the consequences for children and families," he said.
